What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord: altered the locking system on the rental unit without providing replacement keys, substantially interfered with the Tenant's reasonable enjoyment of the rental unit by disposing of the Tenant's personal belongings, and did not give the Tenant 72 hours to remove their property after the Sheriff evicted the Tenant. The Landlord did not attend the hearing.

The ruling

The Landlord must pay the Tenant $19,443 for rent abatement, replacement of disposed property, and general compensation, as well as a $25,000 administrative fine to the LTB. The Landlord illegally changed the locks and disposed of the Tenant's belongings while the Tenant was temporarily away.
