What happened
The Tenant filed an application alleging the Landlord illegally changed the locks after a fire rendered the unit uninhabitable. This occurred after a prior LTB order had already terminated the tenancy for non-payment of rent, but before the termination date. The Tenant, who was unwell and confused, had a friend speak on his behalf. The Landlord did not attend the hearing.
The ruling
The Tenant's application, which claimed the Landlord illegally changed the locks, is dismissed. The adjudicator found the Tenant failed to prove the Landlord acted unlawfully, particularly because the tenancy had already been terminated by a prior order. Additionally, the Tenant did not provide any evidence to support his claim for $400 in expenses.
