What happened

The landlord applied for an order to evict the tenant and for the tenant to pay the rent arrears. The tenant had vacated the rental unit on May 21, 2023 and was not present at the hearing. The landlord's representative challenged the standing of the tenant's mother, who attended the hearing, to represent the tenant without written authorization.

The ruling

The tenant shall pay the landlord $27,690, which includes rent arrears up to the date the tenant vacated the rental unit and the application filing fee. If the tenant does not pay the full amount by September 30, 2023, they will start owing interest at 6% annually on the outstanding balance.
