What happened
The Landlord applied for eviction and payment of rent arrears. The Tenants accumulated $13,500.00 in arrears after Tenant 1 went on leave due to his wife's illness and mistakenly believed rent was being paid. Tenant 1 proposed a structured repayment plan following his return to full-time employment and assistance from his daughter.
The ruling
The LTB ordered the Tenants to pay $13,686.00 in arrears and costs. However, the eviction was stayed on the condition that the Tenants follow a rigorous repayment schedule of $500 weekly/bi-weekly installments starting August 11, 2025, in addition to regular monthly rent. If any payment is missed, the Landlord can apply for an immediate eviction order without notice.
