What happened
The Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to the Tenant's failure to pay market rent since July 2023. The Tenant lost his subsidized rent in June 2023 and his rent increased to market rent of $707 per month. The Tenant has not paid the market rent since July 2023.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated, and the Tenant must vacate the unit by September 6, 2024. If the unit is not vacated by that date, the Landlord may file the order with the Court Enforcement Office for enforcement. The Tenant owes the Landlord $5,470 in rent arrears and application fees, less any rent paid after August 9, 2024. If the full amount is not paid by September 6, 2024, the Tenant will owe interest at 7% annually on the outstanding balance.
