What happened
The Landlord applied for eviction and termination of the tenancy due to the Tenant's failure to pay rent and utility costs. The Tenant failed to pay significant rent arrears and neglected water, sewer, and hot water tank rental bills, which led the City of Peterborough to advise the Landlord that the balances would be added to the property tax roll. The Landlord sought the recovery of both rent and out-of-pocket expenses for these utilities.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective December 20, 2025, unless the Tenant pays $13,086.00 to void the order. The Tenant is also ordered to pay $1,667.14 in utility arrears. If the Tenant does not pay and move out, the Landlord may enforce eviction through the Sheriff starting December 21, 2025. Conditional relief regarding the utilities was granted, but the eviction for rent arrears remains active unless the total L1 amount is paid.
