What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord failed to meet the Landlord's maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The issues included a crack in the ceiling, a broken balcony door, and a mold issue in the rental unit.
The ruling
The Landlord must pay the Tenants $5,206.58, which includes a rent abatement of $1,158.58, $1,000 for replacement of damaged property, and $3,000 for out-of-pocket expenses. The tenancy is terminated as of March 3, 2021, the date the Tenants moved out.
