What happened

Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenants to pay the rent they owe. The Tenants claim the rent increase was unlawful.

The ruling

The N4 notice was defective due to improper rent amount, so the Board will not order termination of the tenancy. The lawful rent is deemed to be $2,400 per month. The Tenants owe $21,786 in arrears, which includes $21,600 in rent and $186 in application fees. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount by November 5, 2024, they will owe interest at 6% annually on the outstanding balance.
