What happened

The landlords applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict the tenants due to non-payment of rent. The matter was heard by videoconference on March 10, 2021, with the landlord's agent and property manager attending, and the tenant Abel Renton's mother attending on his behalf. Mr. Renton eventually called in but did not attend the hearing. On May 25, 2021, Mr. Renton requested a review of the order issued on April 28, 2021, alleging that he was not reasonably able to participate in the proceeding.

The ruling

Order TEL-12706-20 issued on April 28, 2021 is stayed until the review is resolved. A new hearing will be held on the merits if the review is granted. The tenant is directed to bring evidence to support the allegation that he was not reasonably able to attend the original hearing.
