What happened

The Tenant applied for a refund of a furniture deposit and a key deposit collected by the Landlord. The Tenant moved into the unit on November 1, 2024, and vacated on March 1, 2025. Upon vacating, the Landlord confirmed the unit was in excellent condition but refused to return the deposits, eventually blocking the Tenant's phone number.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant $1,248.00 by September 9, 2025. This amount includes the illegal furniture deposit of $1,000.00, the key deposit of $200.00, and the $48.00 application filing fee. If payment is not made by the due date, interest will accrue at a rate of 4% annually.
