What happened
Tenant filed an application alleging that the landlord failed to meet its maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. The rental unit had various issues including carpet, electrical, water, stair railings, heat, pest infestations, leaking roof, mold, septic backup, and the private road. The ruling
The landlord failed to meet its maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act. The tenant is awarded a rent abatement of $7,100 and $400 for out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,548 to be paid by the landlord by March 18, 2024. If the landlord does not pay by the due date, interest will accrue at 7% annually.
