What happened
The Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to non-payment of rent. The Tenant contested the lawful rent amount, claimed to have made more payments than acknowledged, and argued that a signed agreement to terminate the tenancy was signed under duress and included a waiver of arrears. The Tenant vacated the unit on July 1, 2025.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective July 1, 2025. The Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $14,122.47 for rent arrears and the filing fee, after deducting the rent deposit, interest, and a credit for N12 compensation.
