What happened

The Landlord applied for compensation for unpaid utilities by the Tenant. The Tenant, who had already vacated the unit, was required to pay for water, gas, and hydro as per the tenancy agreement but failed to do so. The Landlord provided invoices for the outstanding amount. The Tenant did not attend the hearing. The application was amended at the hearing to include the full amount of unpaid utilities that became known after filing.

The ruling

The Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord a total of $2,362.89. This amount consists of $2,140.89 for unpaid utilities (water, hydro, gas) that the Tenant was responsible for under the tenancy agreement, and $186.00 for the application filing fee. The Tenant had already vacated the rental unit prior to the hearing.
