What happened
Landlord sought damages from Tenant for alleged damage to rental property after Tenant moved out. Tenant disputed the claims and extent of damages. The main issues were whether the Small Claims Court had jurisdiction over the matter, and if so, what damages, if any, the Landlord was entitled to recover.
The ruling
The court found it had jurisdiction to hear the landlord's claim for damages after the tenancy ended. Most of the landlord's claims were rejected as unsupported or excessive. The tenant was ordered to pay $866.34 for damage to hardwood floors beyond normal wear and tear. All other damage claims were dismissed.
