What happened
The Landlord, a corporation, filed an application seeking compensation for damages and unpaid utilities after the Former Tenant vacated the rental unit. The Former Tenant did not attend the hearing. The Landlord provided evidence, including photos and videos, showing extensive damage and mess, such as bodily waste on walls, excessive dog hair, and soiled appliances, as well as unpaid utility bills. The Board found the Tenant responsible for the damages and outstanding utilities.
The ruling
The Former Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord a total of $4,535.25. This amount includes $4,349.25 for reasonable costs incurred by the Landlord for cleaning, repairs, damages, and unpaid utilities, plus the $186.00 application fee. Interest at 4.00% per year will apply to any unpaid balance starting from August 19, 2025.
