What happened
The Landlord filed an L10 application seeking compensation for various damages caused by the Former Tenants after they vacated the rental unit. The allegations included damage to carpets from pet urine, black markings on walls and ceilings caused by pet lizards roaming free, cracked kitchen tiles, and damage to a kitchen cabinet from a leaking deep fryer left behind. The Landlord also sought costs for duct cleaning and hardwood floor scratches. The Former Tenants did not attend the hearing despite being properly served.
The ruling
The Former Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlord $10,545.50, which includes $10,359.50 for repair and replacement costs due to undue damage (carpets, walls, and a cabinet) and $186.00 for the application filing fee. The claims for floor repairs and duct cleaning were dismissed.
