What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord gave a notice of termination in bad faith. The Landlord asked the Tenants to vacate the rental unit within 60 days as he wanted to sell the property, but he did not serve a formal N12 notice. The Tenants vacated the unit, and the Landlord later re-rented the unit for a higher rent.
The ruling
The Landlord must pay the Tenants $6,588.00, which includes rent differential, general compensation, and moving expenses, by January 31, 2024. If the Landlord does not pay by the due date, they will owe interest at 7.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
