What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlords collected or retained money illegally. The Landlords gave the Tenants a notice of termination under section 48 of the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 but did not pay the Tenants the required one-month compensation.
The ruling
The Landlords must pay the Tenants $2,279.50, which includes $2,226.50 for the one-month compensation required by the Act and $53.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Landlords do not pay the full amount by April 22, 2024, they will owe interest at 7.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
