What happened
The Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenants due to significant rent arrears. The arrears arose primarily because the Tenants' rent-geared-to-income (RGI) subsidy was revoked. The Tenants acknowledged the arrears but stated they could not afford the current market rent and were seeking a transfer to a cheaper unit. The Landlord agreed to a delayed eviction date to allow the Tenants time to sort out their housing situation.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective November 30, 2025. The Tenants are ordered to pay $9,148.20 for arrears and costs up to the hearing date, plus daily compensation of $48.20 from October 2, 2025. To void the eviction, the Tenants must pay $10,566.00 by October 31, 2025, or $12,032.00 by November 30, 2025.
