What happened
Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to substantial interference with the Landlord's reasonable enjoyment and for damages caused by the Tenant. The Tenant failed to report a malfunctioning toilet, resulting in increased water utility costs for the Landlord.
The ruling
The Landlord proved the grounds for the claim for compensation. The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $1,071.16, which includes $56.63 for repair costs, $813 for additional utility costs due to substantial interference, and $201 for the application filing fee. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount by January 23, 2024, they will owe interest at 7% annually on the outstanding balance.
