What happened
The Landlord applied for termination of tenancy and eviction because the Tenants failed to pay rent. The Tenants, who have lived in the unit since 2000, fell into arrears citing financial hardship due to bills and medical costs for their son's asthma. They proposed a repayment plan, which was rejected as their monthly income was lower than the monthly rent.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective November 30, 2025, unless the Tenants pay $14,459.00 by that date to void the order. If they do not pay and do not move out, the Landlord may enforce eviction through the Sheriff starting December 1, 2025. If the tenancy is terminated, the Tenants must pay the Landlord $9,221.13, representing arrears up to the hearing date and the filing fee, adjusted for the rent deposit and interest.
