What happened
The Landlords applied to evict the Tenant for non-payment of rent. At the hearing, the Tenant, who had been unemployed but recently started a new job, admitted to the substantial rent arrears. The Tenant requested a delay in the eviction to May 10, 2025. The Landlords' representative objected, citing the significant amount of arrears and previous broken agreements by the Tenant. The Board granted a short postponement of the eviction but denied the Tenant's full request, finding a longer delay would be prejudicial to the Landlords.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated unless the Tenant voids the order by paying the full amount owing. The Tenant can pay $19,766.70 by April 30, 2025, or $21,516.70 by May 4, 2025, to continue the tenancy. If the Tenant fails to do so, they must vacate the unit by May 4, 2025, and pay the Landlords $16,566.69, plus a daily compensation of $64.53 from April 9, 2025, until they move out.
