What happened
The Landlord applied for an order requiring the Former Tenant to pay rent arrears and unpaid utility costs after the Former Tenant vacated the rental unit. The tenancy involved two tenants; when their relationship ended, one tenant remained while the Former Tenant moved out. The Former Tenant had negotiated with the Landlord to end his portion of the tenancy and agreed to pay 50% of the rent and utilities up to his move-out date. The Landlord sought the outstanding balance specific to the Former Tenant's portion.
The ruling
The Former Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord a total of $7,166.79. This amount includes $5,998.25 in rent arrears/compensation, $982.54 for unpaid utilities, and the $186.00 filing fee. Payment is due by December 20, 2025, after which interest will accrue at a rate of 4% per annum.
