What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord failed to meet the Landlord's maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The Tenant alleged there was a sewage issue in the rental unit that caused foul odor and backflow into the unit.

The ruling

The Tenant's T6 application is granted. The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant a rent abatement of $1,550 and $200 for cleaning costs, for a total of $1,803.
