What happened
The Landlord applied for eviction and rent arrears because the Tenants failed to pay rent. The Tenants, who have three young children, cited financial setbacks due to a premature birth and lack of child tax credits for a period. While the Tenants claimed they could begin a payment plan in June, the Board found no concrete proposal or evidence of financial viability, as the Tenants had not made payments since the application was filed and owed over $13,000.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective May 31, 2025. The Tenants are ordered to pay $9,991.24 to the Landlord for arrears up to the hearing date, after deducting the rent deposit and interest. To void the eviction and continue the tenancy, the Tenants must pay $13,700.00 by May 31, 2025. Daily compensation of $59.18 applies for each day the Tenants remain in the unit after the hearing date.
