What happened
The Landlord applied to evict the Tenants for non-payment of rent. The Tenants, who attended the hearing, cited past unemployment and family issues as reasons for the arrears and their lack of communication. They proposed a payment plan. The Landlord expressed doubt about the plan's success due to a previously failed payment agreement and recent lack of communication from the Tenants. The Board granted the Tenants relief from eviction, conditional on them adhering to a new, structured payment plan.
The ruling
The Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlord $16,161.00 for rent arrears and costs. The payment is to be made in installments, beginning May 20, 2025. The Tenants must also pay their ongoing monthly rent in full and on time. If the Tenants miss any payment, the Landlord can apply to the LTB for an order to evict them without a further hearing. The eviction is stayed on the condition that the Tenants follow this payment schedule.
