What happened
The Tenant filed an application because the Landlord failed to address a bedbug issue in a timely manner. After discovering bedbugs and notifying the Landlord, the Tenant hired a K9 inspection service due to the Landlord's delayed response. The Landlord eventually treated the unit. The Tenant sought reimbursement for the K9 inspection cost.
The ruling
The Board found that the Landlord breached its maintenance obligations by unreasonably delaying treatment for a bedbug infestation. However, the Tenant's application was dismissed because the only remedy soughtβreimbursement for a private K9 inspectionβwas deemed an unnecessary expense. Consequently, no relief was granted to the Tenant.
