What happened
The Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict an unauthorized occupant because the Tenant transferred occupancy of the unit without consent. The Tenant had been living outside the country for several years and sublet the unit for a price higher than the lawful rent.
The ruling
The Board terminated the tenancy and ordered the eviction of the Unauthorized Occupant by August 31, 2025. The Tenant and Unauthorized Occupant are jointly liable to pay $6,531.91 in compensation plus $201.00 for the application fee. The Tenant was found to have illegally profited from a sublease while living abroad.
