What happened

Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to substantial interference and wilful or negligent damage to the rental unit. The Landlord alleged that the Tenant caused a blockage in the kitchen sink drain, which resulted in damage to the pipes in the units below.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated effective December 10, 2023. The Tenant must pay the Landlord $9,361.66, which includes compensation for use of the unit, repair costs, and the application filing fee. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount by December 10, 2023, the Tenant will owe interest on the outstanding balance.
