What happened

The Landlord applied for an order requiring the Former Tenants to pay rent arrears and daily compensation after they had already vacated the rental unit. The Former Tenants moved out on May 14, 2023, following a notice of termination, LTB order, or agreement. The Landlord sought recovery for the period leading up to their departure. The hearing proceeded in the absence of the Former Tenants, who were found to have been properly served with the application and notice of hearing by regular mail.

The ruling

The Former Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlord a total of $8,724.65 by July 15, 2025. This amount includes $11,083.51 in rent arrears and the $186.00 filing fee, less the $2,500.00 rent deposit and $44.86 in interest earned on that deposit. If payment is not made by the due date, simple interest of 4.00% per annum will accrue on the balance.
