What happened

The Landlord applied to evict the Tenant from a rooming house unit for seriously impairing the safety of others. The Tenant allegedly removed three fire extinguishers, was seen with a 'crack pipe', and smashed a smoke detector in his room, all while smoking inside. The Tenant did not attend the hearing. The LTB found the Landlord's evidence credible and ordered the termination of the tenancy due to the severe safety risk.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated effective April 15, 2025, and the Tenant must vacate by this date. The Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $186.00 for the application fee. Furthermore, the Tenant must pay daily compensation of $17.86 starting May 1, 2025, until moving out. Relief from eviction was denied due to the severity of the Tenant's actions and his failure to attend the hearing.
