What happened

The tenant applied for an order determining that the landlord collected or retained money illegally. The landlord gave the tenant a notice of termination under section 48/49 of the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 but did not pay the tenant the required compensation.

The ruling

The landlord must pay the tenant $1,150 for the required one month's compensation, as well as $53 for the cost of filing the application. The landlord must pay the full amount by October 9, 2023, or will owe interest.
