What happened
The Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to non-payment of rent. The Tenant, a senior who had recently lost their job, had accumulated significant arrears exceeding $9,000.00. Despite outreach from the Landlord and support agencies to establish a payment plan, the Tenant did not respond and did not attend the hearing. The Member considered the Tenant's status as a senior and their job loss but found the substantial debt warranted termination with a brief postponement of the eviction date.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective August 15, 2025. The Tenant may void the eviction by paying $9,086.00 by July 31, 2025, or $9,276.00 by August 15, 2025. If the Tenant does not void the order, they must vacate by August 15, 2025, and pay the Landlord $8,983.50 plus daily compensation of $6.25 from July 15, 2025, until they vacate.
