What happened

The Landlord applied for an order to collect rent and daily compensation from the Former Tenant after the tenancy ended on June 1, 2024. A previous LTB order had terminated the tenancy by consent and included a payment agreement for older arrears, but the Tenant failed to comply with that agreement and failed to pay rent for the final three months of the tenancy (March, April, and May 2024). The Tenant did not attend the hearing despite being properly served.

The ruling

The Former Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $23,586.00 by May 25, 2025. This amount includes $23,400.00 in rent arrears for the months of March, April, and May 2024, plus the $186.00 filing fee. If payment is not made by the due date, simple interest of 5% per annum will accrue on the outstanding balance.
