What happened
The Landlords filed an L10 application for rent arrears after the Tenants vacated the unit on March 20, 2024. An initial order was issued in April 2025, but the Tenants requested a review, claiming they were unable to participate in the original hearing because they were homeless and the service address provided (a friend's home) was no longer valid as the friend had moved. The Board granted the review on the basis of natural justice and held a new hearing to determine the merits of the arrears claim.
The ruling
The LTB granted the Tenants' review request and cancelled the previous order. However, upon rehearing the merits, the Board found the Tenants owed $2,235.60 in rent and compensation plus the $186.00 filing fee. The Tenants are ordered to pay the total of $2,421.60 by September 11, 2025. Interest will accrue at 4% annually if not paid by the deadline.
