What happened
The Landlord applied for compensation for unpaid utility bills (Enbridge, Alectra, Reliance) totaling an initial $6,409.91. The Tenant had already vacated the rental unit on December 21, 2024. At the hearing, the parties agreed on how to apply a previous payment and a utility deposit to the outstanding utility arrears. The Tenant requested a payment plan due to health issues and low income, but the Landlord opposed it and the request was denied.
The ruling
The Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $2,007.79, which includes $1,821.79 for unpaid utility costs and the $186.00 application fee. The initial claim of $6,409.91 was reduced by a $1,000.00 utility deposit and a $3,587.00 payment previously made by the Tenant. The Tenant's request for a payment plan was denied.
